HOW TO MAKE A 4-INCH SLEEVE FOR YOUR QUILT

  1. Measure the width of your quilt at the top edge. This will be the length of your sleeve.
  2. Cut (or piece) a strip of muslin 8 ½ inches wide and as long as the measurement above.
  3. Sew a 1-inche hem at each end of the strip.
  4. With the hem facing out fold the strip in half along the full length.
  5. Pin or press lightly aligning the unfinished edges and sew a ¼ inch seam. Turn inside out and press.
  6. Position the tube-shaped sleeve on the back of your quilt just below the binding at the top and just inside the binding sides.
  7. Whip stitch the entire length of the sleeve (to the backing only) along the top and bottom. You can attach the sides of the tube closest to the quilt, leaving the tube open.
